Citizen Advocacy of Chester County recently made our 300th Citizen Advocacy match! Not only have 600 people’s lives been transformed over the 40+ years we’ve been in Phoenixville, but these matches have positive far-reaching and lasting ripple effects on the entire community. Citizen Advocacy makes our community a better place for all of us! Thank you for making this possible!
Although it is impossible to convey in a few sentences the magnitude of these relationships, we hope these snapshots of only a handful of Citizen Advocacy matches will give you a glimpse into the power of Citizen Advocacy – a person making a long-term commitment to stand by, stand for & stand with another person, through good times as well as challenging ones – offering advocacy for opportunity, justice, friendship, community life and protection from harm.
April & Nicole: Although Nicole is young, she was transferred to a geriatric nursing home from a group home in Philadelphia because they “no longer wanted her.” Nicole arrived at the nursing home with no personal possessions – just the clothes she was wearing. She had no family members or friends in her life. Within a few weeks of being introduced to Nicole, April and her friends furnished Nicole’s room, gave her brand-new bedding and a full wardrobe of beautiful clothes. Here is what April says of her relationship with Nicole: “Nicole & I continue to earn each other’s trust, figuring it out together. When I needed folks in my corner, they were there for me. I will continue to be in Nicole’s corner – advocating for her.”
Connected by a shared love for soccer, Esteban and Franklin have now been getting to know each other for 4 years. In that time, Esteban has been instrumental in helping Franklin to navigate life after high school, stay safe during covid, and find the new normal. Esteban describes Franklin as having a “joy for life”. The two recently celebrated Franklin’s birthday together, as they’ve done each year since they met.
Michelle and Johanna were introduced years ago at a critical point in Michelle’s life. Johanna was instrumental in working with Michelle to secure housing, maintain her independence, and find employment. Together, Michelle and Johanna have built a strong relationship full of new experiences, trips to Philadelphia and the beach, bonfires with friends and family, and many wonderful memories
Please celebrate this milestone with us and help us continue this work!
We would love to raise $3,000 by our annual spaghetti dinner on Saturday, September 30. Donations of $3, $30 or $300 are greatly appreciated.
